I have included a screen shot, Now if I change the radius to drop down to search 10 miles it comes back with no locations found. I do not know what is around that zip in PA or what is in your database or what all your settings are to see if it is correct , but SLP is working correctly from what my search on your site is showing for results

When I go to your url and I search 17074, all the locations that are within the radius you have set by default show up. The first three the zip begins with “170” if you do not have any locations in the back end in your data base that have a zip code of 17074 they wont show up. . On my site I have no locations that are in that zip so my default message of try a new location or (oh no Mr Bill there are no locations near you) is displayed…unless I change the search radius. I am not sure what your customers complaint is if you do not have a location with that zip code. ??

Below is copied off the results on the url you shared ….

I have looked at your site and am trying to determine if your  theme oceanwp is overriding the zoom setting or if  the location sensor detection that is now auto shut off by SLP if you do not have https  could effect how the map is displayed.  or if it is because you do not have the Experience add-on and changes were made  via the Google interface on how the zoom performs.  I will have to look back at the changelogs with the developer.

You do not have the “Do NOT autozoom” function nor the disable initial directory since you do not have the experience add-on .  There are settings in that add-on that  effects the way the map displays ,

I did have that EXP add-on activated  so to roll it back and to change settings to get the same results  as you is making it difficult to recreate your issues but I do see it on your site.

I Apologize I do not have a solution for you at the moment.  I have raised the query to the developer to see if he can shed any light on it.

    Cody,
I just imported the sample csv file, the two rows sent by Jay. Not any problems loading into my test site whatsoever. It imported so quickly I had to go back and check under locations to make sure it was actually there, and it was, the two 84 lumber locations in texas. So your csv file is correctly formatted and it is most likely an issue with your configuration. As mentioned check the settings, something is non standard. I cannot test it any further. Hope you can get it resolved

I spoke to the developer, about the notifications, he said they are not always going to pop up in exact order, but the first notification in blue is designed that way to tell you where Google thinks the lat/long is, because we had a customer complaints that the lat/long was incorrect, that tells you that our SLP is talking to Google, it is totally Google algorithm and map service that sets the lat/long not us.

next you had two messages, saying couldn’t be added as a new location, and one saying it had been added. Well the last one saying it had been added was correct and the other two couldn’t add it again because it was already added, if it hadn’t been added google notice saying the lat long was at such and such a place would not have appeared……..and your install was not completed correctly, so we cannot “fix’ a notification on an incomplete action.

When you import csv file you wont even see those pop up notices. You will see under import, an import log if you have it checked off. It will provide notification of which columns and fields were imported for instance.

Thanks for letting us know the issue wasnt with our software.

Thought I provided you the link ..

    https://docs.storelocatorplus.com/blog/power-import-and-wpslp/

i.e please refer to the docs on that page,

If it is shown as “zero” then your WordPress Uploads directory for the media library has been set to non-standard restricted access meaning the background location import process is not allowed to open the file after it was uploaded.

If you try it with a very small file, and you have deleted your SL_id column, and it still isn’t working there is something wrong with your configuration in WP.

You can send us your csv file and we will test on our site, but we have a very large client importing weekly and they have not had issues with import.

Also I cant tell if your Google API key is correct, as you mentioned the site you provided me the url for does not have the plugin active

in reply to: Confusing Notifications #57295

No, unless there is another plugin that is in conflict. To see if that is the case would require you to follow the trial and error, deactivating other plugins one by one. There was a known conflict with the Smushit plugin reported, people turned off smush it and the admin panel came back. But you are not saying that you cant see the add fields correct? You are saying you do not see the location in your list after adding the info correct/

To see if there is a conflict, on a staging site, just have SLP active with a default WP theme and add a location. You should see it on your back-end under location/list.

Are you trying the plugin on a test or staging site?

Screen shots and How to add a location has been updated. Going back to your original question, I do not know why you saw the Cant add Amalfis as a new location , perhaps the Googkle server was busy, the last message said it waS ADDED successfully, So you should see it if you click on Locations/list

Go to the documents and look under the How to Video. If yiou are addibng locations and you go to the locations tab and see no locations added I cannot guess where the conflict is if you have followed the steps int he getting started guide.

    https://docs.storelocatorplus.com/home/for-wordpress/

First step , go to Locations, go to the “add” , start typing and enter a correct address etc. Add the name, the street address the city the state and if you know it the zip. Then click save.
Go back to locations and you should see that location that you just added . In the top right hand corner you should see a “screen options” click on that and make sure you are showing the fields you want to see.

I can not test your site to see what is going wrong for you unfortunately.

Hi, On that site url , if you are referring to the “Where to buy page” you are getting this error in your console and currently the page just says “Contact us” . Is that the way you intend it to work? Not have any map or search for locations, or is it just set up that way because you have not finished the site installs?

But since there is no where on that site where I see SLP installed or active that url does not help me help you . You would not need the Geocoding API if you have the regular MAPS API with no restrictions.

Ajax does need to work for SLP to work . See AJAX blocked… Also  See troubleshooting

It is also suggested that you  Update MySQL to 5.6 or higher

Looking at your site url, the issue does not appear to be with the zoom, Do you have a center map at setting? It is correctly showing the middle of the United States if you have not specified an area., if you want to show the whole US set the
It seems that this is the first thing that is happening with your site locator before a search . it shows a blank map but your cache swift_performance is the primary determination of where it starts.

If that plugin is cacheing all your settings you should clear the cache to see if that helps

another plugin or your theme seemed to be overriding the slp power settings. Either way, when a search was performed it appeared to behaving correctly, but I cannot see any of your settings to determine how you wanted it to behave differently or if you are only having issue with the initial map that is being shown

    Are you using SEO Pages?

The Experience add-on allows you to change the results layout. You need sonme html and CSS experience here, or change Plugin style. I am not exactly sure what you are trying to obtain, are you trying to change the permalink or the website redirect?

If you want to redirect to their SEO Pages, info here about the template, or here about attributes

I think what you are referring to is here: See under the Results Layout shortcodes

To change the “website link”  in results , see the layout info here

AS you may have noted in the link you provided that is a feature of the Experience add-on.

i,e that post reads ” verbatim You can change the results Layout with the Experience Add-on by using a combination of shortcodes and html. i.e. use this in the Results Layout:
    [slp_location name]””””

I do not see any orders under your name showing that ou bought the experience or any add-ons. Please read the posting guidelines, when posting we need INFO preferably a screenshot of your SLP  Plugin environment which would show us what versions and any add-ons you may have,

I believe we may have answered this, but you are correct, you shouldnt need a geocoding key if you do not have referrer restirctions.

Things to check, see under docs…

P.S. Interestingly enough , if you search similar questions on the net I see this response in Stackoverflow from a developer...so now I am wondering if Google is trying to rely on their directions or places API…or if they are just mis-directing by accident, or they are playing games with everyone.

More recently similar  questions were submitted to Google and ended up in Stackoverflow as well.

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/50037957/google-maps-api-geocode-not-returning-results-on-passing-postal-code-as-a-value

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/30550915/google-geocode-api-fails-for-certain-valid-zip-codes?rq=1

So I went to the source to see what they suggested:

    Under their new forward geocoder

They of course say they have decided zero results is a better response rather then give you a location nearby, and lo and behold, i am guessing their Places API is more expensive then the MAPS API…just a guess.

Basically they are saying what we have been instructing people, to have your user enter more complete address queries.

Ill let you know if there is a work around otherwise

I just answered a post to someone about the Google Maps and how they misdirect. You can try to steer your site user to enter more information by adding labels or adding something under the search form or under results such as “If no address or results found try adding more info”

See my reply to the forum post here

    https://wp.storelocatorplus.com/forums/topic/a-ny-zipcode-is-placed-in-fl/

in reply to: A NY Zipcode is placed in FL? #57249
    Cici
    Keymaster

yep I see that…Guess Google has decided to move Southern New York to Florida.

How Google returns a zip code search is not within our control. There are tools that we use such as auto complete, or  show Google guesses  to get around Googles mis -direction.   We have no control over Google, all we can do is add tools to assist the user to either add more information, or provide them with more informations (such as Google thinks you are….”

For instance I turned on Show address guess on my site and then typed in that zip code and this is what showed up as my Show address guess..”12734 Kenwood Ln # 49, Fort Myers, FL 33907, USA”

So apparently Google now has decided that poor guys address is where all packages intended for zip ciode 12734 should show up. Poor guy!!!

Hard to believe we know, but Google purposefully mis-directs at random places and zips.  We can only guess  as to why  , but for sure it is to benefit them somehow. Tghey really do not like third party applications even though they are now requiring everyone to pay for the benefit by using billing accounts to the API.

It would be good to enter a ticket to the Google support, they say that everyone who has an API key now will get support. Ask them why they are dissing the zip code for  Ferndale NY

I am confused as well by your screen shots.

The restaurant you are showing is an example of a csv file only in our docs site the files can be downloaded from the public drive and is showing examples of  properly formatted CSV files

did you download the csv file example from our docs site and then upload that into your site?  Not sure why you would want to do that instead of adding your own locations , but ok, we really like Amalfis cheese steaks as well as their authentic Italian food  and do not mind having websites everywhere show them on their  sites map.!

Second, , the first notice tells you the lat/long as google has determined.

Second notification shows that  it could not be added, not sure why since I do not know what your site url is,  but possibly Google was busy, maybe your server glitched,  possible you used imports but left sl_id column header on., possible your Google API key didn’t match, ..there are tons of guesses but without knowing more about what you were doing and what url or if you were testing on a staging site I cannot be sure.

Do you have a Google API key? See how to

If you have a Google Browser API key : Do you have referrer restrictions on your API , if so you will also need a geocoding API key.

    https://docs.storelocatorplus.com/blog/google-geocoding-browser-keys/

providing your site url would be helpful.

    Hi Catherine,

Thank you for letting us know. With the WPSLP and add-ons, even though customers may have a Premier subscriptions, they are still considered a “Do it yourself” project and the two add-ons Power and Experience may require updates when a new version of the base plugin is updated. The version numbers will not always match, so best to check the versions available if you update manually.

(This is one of the big differences compared with the MYSLP plans where we do all the updates and maintenance of the software as well as the google API keys.)

‘You will want to make sure you are keeping current back-ups at all times and when possible either auto update or follow the guidance in Lances news article
