    Hi Cici,

Thanks for looking into this for us. Let us know when Lance can take a look.

What I listed in my last post ARE the values in Settings > Search > Appearance > Layout > Search Layout. It doesn’t specify the text “Address/Zip” anywhere. How can I change it from that field? What I am really wondering is where this “Address/Zip” value is pulled from/stored. In the MySQL database of the site? In a CSS file that I cannot find anywhere? A part of your plugin’s code that is obfuscated to the end user. I’m fine with “hard-coding” our preferred value in somewhere – but I don’t know where I would put it!

Please see attached – it’s what appears under. Settings > View > Layout and Settings > View > Custom CSS. Does this enlighten things for you at all?

    Thanks!

    Hi Cici,

I believe we were on the Gallery Style. But I actually decided to switch it to Twenty Sixteen Rev 04 because it looks a bit better with our site’s layout. However, it doesn’t seem to make a difference as even after I change the Plugin Style setting and then change the setting under Search > Labels (and then select Save, and refresh the map page of our site) it still does not actually change the value that appears. It still says “Address / Zip” and I am trying to change it to “Address or Postal Code”

This is what it looks like under Search > Appearance > Search Layout. It’s basically the same as what you have above, so I am still confused on what the issue is. Whatever is happening, it seems like the setting is “stuck” and is resisting being changed through the normal CMS system. I was wondering if you know where in the site database this value is actually stored so that I can see if I can change in on the back-end.

    Hi Cici,

Yes, of course I refreshed the page after changing the value in the CMS… You can still see it says “Address / Zip” on our page. (http://backcountryaccess.com/map)

I can’t imagine why, how or when we would have hardcoded that value into our website’s theme – that just don’t seem like something we would do, and it also doesn’t make sense that we would have hard-coded it to the value that is the same as default value that is set by SLP. I looked through our theme CSS pages and I don’t see anything of that nature.

You also haven’t proved that anything is hardcoded on our site. I inspected the same element on the Store Locator Plus demo site and it looks exactly the same to me, so if your observation of the code proves that our site is hardcoded, so is yours, if I am looking at this correctly… See attached screenshot.

    Hi Cici,

I updated the plugins as you recommended but I am afraid the problem persists! I change the value of the field in the Settings > Search > Labels menu, and then pressed the green Save button but I do not see the change reflected on the the Store Locator page of our site. It still defaults to “Address / Zip”. I have tried different values in the box in the Settings menu and nothing seems to stick, even though it shows the updated value in that field after pressing Save. Is there a way to change this on the back-end? Do you know where in the site database this value is stored, assuming it is? Then, perhaps, I could go in and edit it manually? We have customers outside the USA so “Zip” isn’t really the best term to display on our page.

Please see attached for screenshots of the updated plugin environment, as well as screenshots of the current values in the Settings menu, and a screenshot of how the label looks on the site currently.

Can you help me resolve this?

    Hi Cici,

I like the way your map looks overall, excepting that the search form you have isn’t super clean looking. I do think the square shape for the map is more user-friendly.

I tried changing to your Style Default Legend Below and it only changed things slightly – now the Category drop-down is below the label for the field, but overall it looks very much the same. Still a bit…awkward.

I think maybe you misunderstood what I meant when I said that the labels next to the category icons weren’t showing. I don’t necessarily want a “legend” anywhere – what we would want is for each listed Location to show it’s categories next to the symbol. In the past, SLP did this, but it does not appear anymore for some reason. Now, only the icons show in each listed Location.

In other words, next to the little icon that indicates a “Cylinder Refill Center” in our system, I want it to actually print “Cylinder Refill Center” not just show the icon. Is that possible?

    See attached.

    Hi Cici,

This is the current “live” version of our map: http://backcountryaccess.com/map

In case you are curious, the theme on the site is called Jumbo and is made by a company called Obox. It is a responsive theme.

I would like to experiment with a more square-shaped map. At the very least, it would be nice if the feature that was supposed to allow changing the map size would work. To me, at least, it’s a little too wide and not tall enough and feels awkward. I welcome any other opinions on that… what do you think?

In addition, yes, it would be nice if the search form looked a little nicer. Perhaps smaller font/form elements, and maybe have them more vertical eg:

    Address Form: [……………….] (newline)

    Server Center Type: […….] (newline)

    Radius [……….] (newline)

    [Find Locations Button]

    [Map]

The other thing was that the category name no longer shows next to the category symbol/icon in the results listings, but I think you said to make another post about that issue?

    Hi Cici,

I haven’t done any customization so far, because I do not quite understand where I am to change the CSS for the SLP plugin? There looks to me to be quite a few CSS files associated with the plugin…which one should I be looking at? (See attached screenshot 2)  As-is the search form just doesn’t look great on the site, as shown in the screenshot in my previous post. It looks misaligned and the fields are awkwardly close together. I’ve tried several of the other styles included with the Premier plugin but none of them are satisfactory.

In response to “<span style=”color: #43454b; font-family: ‘Source Sans Pro’, HelveticaNeue-Light, ‘Helvetica Neue Light’, ‘Helvetica Neue’, Helvetica, Arial, ‘Lucida Grande’, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: #fbfbfb;”>As far as the map height etc.  You cannot change the</span><span style=”box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: bold; color: #43454b; font-family: ‘Source Sans Pro’, HelveticaNeue-Light, ‘Helvetica Neue Light’, ‘Helvetica Neue’, Helvetica, Arial, ‘Lucida Grande’, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;”> height %</span><span style=”color: #43454b; font-family: ‘Source Sans Pro’, HelveticaNeue-Light, ‘Helvetica Neue Light’, ‘Helvetica Neue’, Helvetica, Arial, ‘Lucida Grande’, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; background-color: #fbfbfb;”>. you can change the  height px. I just tried it on my site and it works the way it is supposed to.”</span>

I cannot change the pixel height either. Changing the pixel height/width does not result in ANY actual change to the appearance of the Store Locator map. I have played with the values in a few different ways, but how the map actually looks does not change. I would like the map to be more “square” shaped than how it currently looks, instead of a little on the wide and narrow side as it appears now. Like I said, this feature has never worked at all for us, across multiple versions/installations of SLP.

I am already using Premier version 4.7.8.

    Hi Cici,

Thank you for your thoughts. To answer your question, “<span style=”color: #43454b; font-family: ‘Source Sans Pro’, HelveticaNeue-Light, ‘Helvetica Neue Light’, ‘Helvetica Neue’, Helvetica, Arial, ‘Lucida Grande’, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;”> </span><span style=”color: #43454b; font-family: ‘Source Sans Pro’, HelveticaNeue-Light, ‘Helvetica Neue Light’, ‘Helvetica Neue’, Helvetica, Arial, ‘Lucida Grande’, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;”>Are you saying that when you change its appearance under Experience/Map it isnt having an effect?”</span>

Yes, exactly. Changing the pixel height/width values does not have any actual effect on the size of the map. Come to think of it, this feature of SLP has never worked for me.

I guess it must be my website’s theme that is preventing me from making any changes? I tried simply adding a <br> tag between the Address search form and the category drop-down menu in the Search Form, part of the Experience menu, but even that does not do anything. I’d just like to find a way to make the search for look a little bit more professional than it does right now. (See attached screenshot) I’m not especially familiar with the finer points of CSS and I’m unsure where/how I would modify that.

Also, it appears as if I am unable to actually change the size of the map as shown under Experience > Map. Any changes I make there do not seem to affect the appearance on our map page. Is this because of our WordPress theme? Any way around it?

    Hi Cici,

Noted on the sl_id and on the incomplete address. Although I don’t expect that an incomplete address should break the import – SLP should just skip over that record and geocode the next.

I see what you are saying about the multiple categories now, I think. But it’s not a great way to do things, because different systems will interpret the csv differently if commas are included in a field, and it makes the data manipulation I need to do on my end more difficult. When I exported from my system to generate the .csv, the multiple categories were in the same field, separated by commas, but when you opened it, your system read it differently, because commas have special meaning in .csv I presume I will have to encapsulate all my fields with quotation marks, or use some other means, when I generate my csv? Is there any way to use another character as a divider between categories? Like a “/” or “&” or something? Maybe something for you to think about in the future. Extra commas in .csv throws everything out of whack.

I will try running it through Google sheets now and see what I can else I can do with it.

    Hi Lance,

Just sent you a sample of my .csv file format for upload.

I’ll have to find a way to merge my records so that I can put both categories in the same row, instead of listing the same place twice in two rows, when a Location is in more than one category. If I can do that then I can send that along later… It would actually be a huge plus if we can get that going.

The main problem right now seems to be that I cannot actually change the options in the Locations > Import menu don’t seem to be retained when selected, so I cannot import without doing the geocoding immediately.

    Hi Cici,

Thanks for getting back to me. I went ahead removed the version of SLP I had installed, and installed PHP version 7 on that subdomain, then re-installed the SLP plugins from fresh downloads off your site, but it looks to me like the main problem I am having right now persists – when I select “Add” and “Skip Geocoding” in the import menu the settings are not actually followed when I run the import process.

I am confused about your reference to the slp_id. Right now I am trying to import a completely fresh batch of contacts generated from an separate database I have elsewhere, after previously removing all existing location records from SLP, so I don’t have slp_ids set in my CSV. Do I still need to set the slp_ids in my .csv file before import? If so, what do I set them to? I’m also not familiar with what this has to do with the Contacts Extender.

See attached for new Plugin Environment settings.
