Page Layout not right

The menu to the left seems to be squished. I tried a bunch of different page templates.

Any ideas?

Check your theme to see if the col width is inherited . If  you say you tried many different plugin styles and they  do not return properly you may need to adjust by adding some CSS rules.

You can check if it is your theme that is overriding by switching to a basic WP default theme . WP 4.9.6 changed some theme settings as well. See WP codex for 4.9.6
