Hello,
My client says the import tool creates duplicate locations even when they select the “update” existing locations option. Do you have any suggestion or trouble shooting ideas?
Thank you
September 2, 2016 at 5:49 PM #42983CiciKeymasterUPDATE,
The first suggestion in Troubleshooting is to check your versions (or suggest to your client to do the same)
I do not know what your client is using for add-ons etc but there was a bug in Power add-on with duplicate handling: Update setting and it has been fixed . You have not provided enough information, such as versions, add-ons, site url, plugin environment.’
Please Read the Posting guidelines so that we can assist you in the future
September 2, 2016 at 7:05 PM #42988JonParticipantHello,
We are using the updated versions of ProPack, Plus and Tagalong. The default version of the store locator is 4.513. My client got back to me and said she did not check “skip first line” when importing. The column titles are listed on the csv file. Could this be the issue? If so, what is the best way to fix this? Thanks in advance.
September 3, 2016 at 5:03 PM #42997CiciKeymasterWe are on version 4.6 , Please provide a screenshot of the Plugin Environment and the settings under Import.
ProPack and Tagalong are now included in Power 4.6. Your client (or you) need to check the versions of whatever they have to the latest version lists
See documentation about imports
If she is UPDATING existing locations is she including the sl_id in a column and is it the correct sl_id?
….that must be included.
September 4, 2016 at 2:05 AM #43000JonParticipantAttached are the screenshots. See didn’t select “skip first line” when the first line when importing. If this caused the problem, how do we fix this on the next import? Thank you
September 6, 2016 at 3:18 PM #43023CiciKeymasterProPack and Tagalong are Legacy add-ons but they still work with SLP. I no longer test ProPack or Tagalong versions since they are now part of the Power Add-on. Power is 4.6 and the updater works.
See the documentation if she is uploading and wants to UPDATE an existing location (adding a tag or field or some other change like description) they need to have the sl_id col. and the sl_id (store number) that was assigned to the location in that col. , OR add an identifier and use their assigned identifier col. .
If they do not want to update any fields in existing locations but just add to their list they should have selected “SKIP ” . That will skip the duplicated location and not add or update under the Duplicate listings handled (see documentation)
P.S. suggest upgrading to the Power add-on that is current and replaces the Legacy add-ons you have listed, they can ask for a coupon for a discount in the hosting survey (link is in the footer on home page)
September 8, 2016 at 4:21 PM #43069JonParticipantCici,
My clients have experienced issues because they have been importing the older csv file that does not use the appropriate column names after your plugin updates. This is now a COMPLETE MESS and they want direction on the best way to get back on track. They have over 1000 locations. I have a backup from a month ago with the exported locations. What is the best way to clear this current locator and revert back to this file? I can send this for you to look at via a private message. I would like you to look at it to make sure the appropriate column ids are in place. I will then need directions on reverting back to this file. Thank you
September 8, 2016 at 4:48 PM #43070JonParticipantAlso, my client has an accurate excel sheet with all of the correct locations. Is there anyway to set this up with the appropriate column names and import this and eliminate the mess currently listed on the locator? Thank you
September 9, 2016 at 11:10 AM #43092CiciKeymasterYou cannot import directly from an excel file, It must be converted to a csv file which is a simple save as csv,, the data field headers are shown in the documentation (csv file, location imports etc) The Power add-on imports faster.
We always suggest using Google sheets upload the excel file, fix it in there and then use that to download as a csv file since Microsoft seems to have issues with converting text to numbers and dropping leading zeroes for instance.
You can send the file to us at support@storelocatorplus.com
As far as Clearing up the locations they currently have , there is a bulk actions they can delete all locations but if they have over 1000 it may be time consuming depending on how many you are able to display on a page. (you would want to change the display back to a reasonable amount once done) Since they dont have the Power add-on I do not know if they have the APPLY ALL button to delete,
-or-
you can use Janitor /tools
Click on Clear locations.
Janitor is a free add-on
It won’t “reset” , they should delete the incorrect locations, but, since I do not know what the “MESS” is I cannot advise you. If you or they need someone to log on their site, there is an option in the Paid Support. That is over and above the free support I can provide here.
September 9, 2016 at 2:14 PM #43103JonParticipantThank you. One other question… if we delete all locations on the website and add the new csv file, do we simply compare and match the exported file column names and leave the sl_id blank on the new csv, then let the software generate these? Also, once the locations are permanently deleted, will these be completely cleared from the database? Thank you
September 10, 2016 at 2:22 AM #43107JonParticipantAlso, if possible, could you please email me an example of a csv file displaying the appropriate column names so my client can compare to. Thank you
September 10, 2016 at 9:25 PM #43115CiciKeymasterSee sample csv examples heres in that documentation
You are correct, if you delete and then reload via importing, new sl_ids will be assigned. There is also the ability with the Power Add-on to assign your OWN Identifier (read CSV Duplicate updateshandling under the docs) so that you do not have to guess or look up the sl_id assigned number. The Identifier is part of the extended data. In other words it is not the same field heade as sl_id….it is header name identifier. That is something to keep in mind.

September 20, 2016 at 6:18 PM #43287JonParticipantMy client has followed your instructions and after looking at the admin, it appears the listings look correct. Now, however the tagalong and search features are not working at all. Please advise.
Here is the locator:

Thank you
September 23, 2016 at 2:39 PM #43317JonParticipantAre you offering support anymore on this? The locator doesn’t work at all now. My client is looking for answers and so am I. Tagalong and ProPack both were purchased only a year ago and we are not in need of any upgrade as these two suffice our needs. All we ask is that it works. Please advise. Thank you.
September 24, 2016 at 4:18 PM #43330CiciKeymasterEvery time you bump, it makes your question look new and we answer oldest to newest.
I was ill and had a personal issue to deal with , sorry I couldn’t jump on this same day . If it was working and they didn’t do anything else other than import, then did they update WordPress or anything else , other plugins recently? Are they still using versions SLP 4.5.13 and 4.5.07 for the add-ons.
I cannot see anything in their site, you can follow the Troubleshooting guide and follow the Debugging instructions. Without error logs I cannot tell what is going on.
P.S. If you have an urgent need , there is one on one email option under support for next biz day support for anyone who cannot wait for forum questions to be answered (Forum questions are usually answered in 1- 5 days , see posting guidelines)
September 26, 2016 at 11:05 AM #43335CiciKeymasterJon, Could you please have your client either
1) email us directly with their issues
or
2) register and post in the forum.
I am afraid that having a middle man might not be the best method of communicating and answering support questions. I have not heard back from you on this issue, since there is urgency on your clients side, we would like to resolve their ongoing issues.
If it is easier for you we can contavt them directly via email
September 26, 2016 at 11:24 AM #43336CiciKeymasterIf they updated SLP to 4.6.1 and did not update WP to 4.6 there will be an error.
If you are using MUlTISITE – upgrading SLP to 4.6.2 fixes “not an array” error that would cause white screen on upgrade for sites using WP 4.6+
* Fix stripslashes_from_strings_only() undefined function for sites running old “crusty” WordPress (you really should update to WordPress for security reasons if nothing else).
On their site I see this warning
1) Synchronous XMLHttpRequest on the main thread is deprecated because of its detrimental effects to the end user’s experience. For more help, check https://xhr.spec.whatwg.org/.
And this FAILED error which is related to the child theme:

September 26, 2016 at 11:29 AM #43337CiciKeymasterAdditional info in Troubleshooting for you to check:
Things That Break The Locator
These are the most common reasons why the locator stops working on a site:
- Another plugin or theme is breaking JavaScript. (see how to check this)
- Your site running the latest minimum versions of PHP or MySQL required by WordPress.
- You have not upgraded your SLP add ons to the latest version.
- Your site has disabled the WordPress AJAX handler.
- Your site has disabled the REST API handler.
September 26, 2016 at 2:16 PM #43341JonParticipantCici,
Wordpress and all plugins are up to date. The locator was working fine until imports and exports were performed. I will get in touch with my client and find out which way he would prefer to proceed and then get back to you. Thank you.
