1) Assuming you had a backup of your site before you updated , if so on your staging site can you restore your previous versions and see if you still see an error?
2) See the suggestions under Troubleshooting here. Turn off plugins one by one to see if the error keeps occurring.
Most people do not update just one plugin but a bunch at the same time so isolating an issue becomes a problem. Some themes do not get updated at all and when WP updates causes issues that were not issues before.
I am guessing it is one of your plugins or theme that may be causing issues and is not playing nice with SLP . (example we recently had one customer who reported no results showing and when he followed the troubleshooting guide he found an antispam plugin caused SLP to not work the way it should.)
Do not chance fooling around with a live production site, always make sure you have a Back-up (and it is best to also have a staging site) We strongly recommend looking into the WordPress backup, or better option Jet Pack. One of the features included , besides real-time incremental backups of your site with restore points, is the ability to restore the site to an alternate site.
3) If after troubleshooting you still have an issue do you have a backup of your site or a staging site that you can turn on the categories and reproduce the error so that we can look at it on the staging site?
